The Maryland Seafood Festival Offers Three Ways to Give Back to the Community
including Stuff-A-Boat from Giant Food and ticket sale donations
August 13, 2009—Annapolis, MD—Philanthropy has always been a part of The Maryland Seafood Festival, and this year is no exception. Festival organizers are offering three ways for attendees to give back to local charities. Continuing with past traditions, the event will feature charity vendors, including groups such as the local Boy Scouts. New this year, two additional avenues have been added to support local charities, including an exciting partnership with Giant Food:
A $2.00 donation from every presale ticket sold online will go to the local charity of the purchaser's choosing.
Food donations brought by festival-goers will be added to the "Stuff-A-Boat" campaign, a partnership between The Maryland Seafood Festival and Giant Food. All donations used to “stuff the boat” will go to The Maryland Food Bank.
“Our goal is to provide a venue for people to have fun while giving back,” said Ayrianne Parks, spokesperson for The Maryland Seafood Festival. “For the first time ever there are 3 ways festival-goers can give back. We are especially thankful to Giant, our partner on the Stuff-A-Boat event, and we are excited to help a terrific organization like the Maryland Food Bank.”
“The Maryland Seafood Festival is a great community tradition and we are happy to be a part of it and help support its philanthropic mission,” said Kim Brown, Vice President of Public Affairs and Community Relations for Giant Food. “We hope that everyone will take part in this fun, family friendly celebration. And don‟t forget to bring a food donation for Giant's 'Stuff-A-Boat' program to benefit The Maryland Food Bank.”
Stuff-A-Boat, the Maryland Seafood Festival's partnership with Giant Food in support of the Maryland Food Bank, is an exciting and fun way for attendees to give back. Every festival-goer that brings a non-perishable food item will receive $2.00 off their onsite ticket purchase. Festival organizers are hoping to collect enough food to fill an entire boat, hence the name. Giant Food will also be collecting food items prior to the event in their Annapolis area Giant stores to support the Maryland Seafood Festival's efforts.
“We are thrilled about our partnership with Giant and the Maryland Sea Food Festival and encourage attendees to bring mountains of tuna and peanut butter to the event,” comments CEO of the Maryland Food Bank, Deborah Flateman. “Right now, the Maryland Food Bank is dealing with an increase in demand somewhere in the realm of 25 to 50 percent and we are working diligently to keep up with the need. Festivals like this promote the sense of charity that our organization thrives on.”
